I was in math last week and we were going through review packets for the state test - there was a question that featured “σ”, and he just said “…that letter thing…” in place of it.

After he explained the question, I asked “What is that Greek letter called?”

All he said was that he didn’t know and that it didn’t even matter. I was disappointed so I went home and memorized the entire Greek alphabet. Turns out it’s lower case sigma. I don’t see why a math teacher wouldn’t know that σ is sigma. Or be curious about what it’s called.

Whatever, Mr. Norris.

I remembered the Greek alphabet for this reason as well, not due to a math teacher.  But due to my own curiosity and interest in math. It was all due to a sigma.

  9. rebelplatypus said: Going to be honest. When I saw the teacher’s name was Norris my first thought wasn’t Chuck Norris….it was the cat from Harry Potter. xD I forgave him because I figured it might be difficult for cats to learn Greek.
